My Darling Wife,

Oh I was so happy today, I received both of your letters mailed the 23rd. One you wrote on Monday & the other on Tuesday. – I’m sorry Pheety I didn’t get to write you last nite but they kept us busy the whole blessed day & had night operations til almost midnite. – We hiked 10 miles to the combat field & had nite scouting & patrolling. – It was fun but we sure were tired when we got back. – I know you haven’t heard from me much this week, because every other nite we’ve been having these nite operations. – They will all be over the end of this week (tomorrow) so you needn’t worry about that when you come down I don’t think.

-Darling I think it will be lovely if you can go to your grandmothers for a little rest before you come down. I hope your folks will at least let you go for 2 days anyway before you leave. It’s terrible Darling you have to put up with those kids at nite especially, I feel so sorry for you that it isn’t funny. – If your dad had any sense at all he wouldn’t have taken them in the first place. – I don’t know why he acts the way he does. It’s a shame that’s all I have to say for him but he seems to not have much judgment and consideration for you Pheety.

No Darling you never tormented me by wanting my attention all the time. – You’re my wife & I’m your husband & you should always expect my attention all the time. – It makes me so happy Pheety to know someone loves me so much as to want my attention constantly. I love it Margaret although I never let on to you. – You’d want me to go upstairs when you went but I wasn’t always ready to go with you, I never showed how much I loved you to want my attention so much Darling but I noticed it all the time. – I never have to worry about getting your attention as you’re always hanging on to me Pheety & I want you to know I love it. If this is all tormenting me as you call it, then I say it’s wonderful kind of tormenting.

Please tell me Darling what Dr. Pratt says about your condition as I think of your health ever since your operation—Remember Darling, I’m deeply concerned about you every minute of the day & worry so much about your condition. – it appears your dad has completely forgotten you ever had an operation the way he makes you work @:*!85%. You said when you get a hold of me you’re going to love me to death- Well what do you think I’m going to do to you Darling- It sure was thrilling to hear you say that & boy wait til I pull you close to me & wiggle like we used to when we kissed each other, WOW!

-- I’m sorry to hear you haven’t any money Darling & I was wondering where it all went to. – I suppose your dad got some of it to go boozing on. – When you get your next check I suppose you’ll have to give your folks some money before you leave. I’m telling you now, if you do you won’t have enough to carry your expenses til you get paid again. – Margaret you’ll need every penny so don’t let anyone buffaloe you into giving some away. If you do it’s your own fault & I think because you have to work so hard is partly your own fault because you’re afraid to speak your piece.

No wonder you might run out of stamps, you send your letters air mail & I told you once before Pheety that they’ll get here just as fast with 3 cent postage. – I sure do appreciate your air mail letters Darling but mother sends my letters with 3 cent & they get here as fast as yours do. – Of course I use air mail stamps but it has proven the mail is slower going your way. So it is really faster going by air mail when I send letters your way (north).

Since you expect to get your check on the 4th of march I do hope you have everything ready to leave the morning of the 4th. Then if you do get your check that morning you can leave that afternoon on the _____ train for Cinti. – Please be ready by then Darling & you can be in New Orleans the evening of the 5th. – I know I told you before to come on a weekend but since we’ve waited so ling, come as soon as you get your check. – I get my check the 1st, so it makes everything swell. – Don’t send me any money as I will have mine before you get yours. Please come the 4th because on the 12th we leave for Camp Slidel which is 70 miles from here. That’s where out rifle range is & we’ll only be gone a week to fire the rifle & then we’ll come back to New Orleans. – If you get here on the 5th we’ll be together a whole week before I go. Then you won’t see me for a week after that, but you can have a job in the telephone Co. by ________ & can be working while I’m gone if you feel good enough. Please be careful on the train Darling as there are always soldiers wanting to sleep with you in your seat & try to get smart – you never saw the like when I came down on the train. I trust you Darling but am telling you to ignore them because even if you want to be polite it gives them enough lead that they’ll pester you to death. Most soldiers today are women hungry & all they want is only one thing – you know what that is Darling. – But I do have so much faith in you Darling, but I know how tough some of them are on trains. Don’t get me wrong, I know you wouldn’t do anything with a soldier, but even if you’re being polite to let one sit with you you’ll be bothered the rest of your trip & ________ witnesses such cases while working passenger & it’s awful how some soldiers are. These Lieutenants are the worst & they don’t seem to have any sense. – I do hope you can get plenty of rest on the train & as I say, if you’re not bothered you will get plenty of rest. Will be looking for you my most precious Pheety the 5th at the L & N Station around 9:00 pm. I can hardly wait til I see my Pheety get off that train but until I do, here’s all my love to only you Darling & I love you so much I could squeeze you to pieces when I see you. – I can’t wait til I’m cuddled up to your shapely body when we go to bed either. – Please take good care of yourself just for me Darling ______ work so hard. If anything should ever happen to you Pheety always remember, you’ll always live in my heart forever.

Your Impatient Pheety,

Vincent
