My dearest Hal,

Today is a rainy, cloudy day but your letter came this morning so that made things bright for me. I have gotten two letters, one containing $1000 and the other $250 in money orders. I am buying bonds with it as you suggested. I’m very thrilled to be able to buy them. I have also gotten all the things you mentioned sending. We had to pay a little duty on the first package but have not paid any on anything else. I have been thrilled to get so many beautiful things. I thought the old cloth you sent was one of the loveliest pieces of hand made work I’ve ever seen. You were lucky to have gotten such a handsome thing as that.

I’m so glad you are going to get your promotion. I do hope it will be soon. I know you deserve it and have waited very patiently for it. Haw long do think it will be before you get it?

I want you to make out a list of the things you have lost and the things you can not get over there that I might possibly send to you. You mentioned getting Readers Digest and American. I sent Cosmopolitan too. If you don’t get it let me know right away and I will investigate. Also I want to know if you plan to send presents to your family and mine for Christmas or shall I do it?

Will you be able to hear radio broadcast or see American Newspapers now? I have very little idea of what I can send or write and if you could tell me something you’d like to have or hear about it would be a big help.

All my love,
