Dear Mae:

It was enjoyable hearing from you after so long a period and hope that the time it took you to write did it interfere to much with your “activities.” Mae Westfall, I know you like a book and am telling you straight t your face that you were not being truthful with yourself or to me when you said you are too busy to write. I don’t know what you think or are doing, but I do know that now you are not being fair with me. Anything I ever did was guided by an instinct.- and I always considered you first. You are not helping me now- you are hurting me- and rubbing it in!!! Mae, be truthful with me please. If you don’t care to see me or write to me, at least tell me. I can take it. If I didn’t like as I do, I wouldn’t be writing as I am. I love you as always and now that I am in the army thought we could continue with our engagement. If you have found someone else tell me please. Apparently, you still wear the ring. If you don’t care to see me again at least save me the ring and ill know where I stand. That isn’t asking too much. I had all sorts of hope we could get together and have lots of fun. I had aso much to tell you.

So Mae- promise me you will write and explain. It was wonderful having your voice that night. Whatever your idea, at least let me know. I go to Officers Candidate School soon.

Love,

Walt
