Dear Mom:

Had my check ride today in the B-17 and passed it ok, but I am sure tired from it. They really put you through the mill giving 2 + 3 engine operation. I was sweating like a n***** on ‘lection day when I came down. Gets warm out here in the day time, but cools off nicely at night.

We are not so far from Boulder Dam or Grand Canyon either and Joe and I want to go up there some week-end, but we have troubles. They don’t give us a drop of gas here except the “A” book which won’t take us to the flight line hardly. I wonder if Pop could work his influence and talk some of his buddies out of some coupons. Just as many as you can spare Pop would be so appreciated. We’ll go batty if we don’t get away from this place once in awhile. This is the first field where they don’t give you any gas that we’ve been on yet. The need is great, so any contribution will be gladly accepted –

Heard from John Weber and he’s the papa of an 8 # 12oz. boy. He wanted a girl very badly, but looks like he’ll settle for the lad, seeing as how there’s nothing he can do about it after all. John             wasn’t on our orders to come here because he was home on leave, so I don’t know what will happen to him when he gets back to Williams, he may come on up yet.

Had the meeting with the big wig today and it looks like we will be here for quite a spell. He said that it would be only fair to send the men out of here first that had been stuck here the longest. Sure doesn’t seem much hope of me getting over before the war ends completely.

No news so I’ll close and sleep awhile.

                                                                        My love to all,

                                                                                    Roy

Doesn’t seem like I’ll ever meet Herb + Fran does it?
