Dear Elva,

Thank you very much for your gift. You don’t know how much it meant to me. It was fortunate I received it after dinner or I would have made a piggy out of myself. I offered my friends some, and one of them after restraining himself for a while, asked me for another piece. Excuse the blob, but there was a little too much ink on my pen. I am enclosing one of our regimental emblems, which you may keep as a souvenir.

I am enjoying Army life very much so far. It isn’t half as bad as they say it is. I think I should be a better man as a result of my training. At least I will make a good wife if you see what I mean. Thank you again.

 Yours Sincerely,

Georgie
