Dear Miss Stevens:

Thank you very much for your most generous offer. I spoke to one of the soldiers here the morning your letter arrived and I know you would have been very pleased at his reaction. He knew of at least half a dozen fellows in his battery who were keenly interested in photography and who would welcome the material you mentioned. So you see my request was not an idle one.

If you can get the material to the dock in New London the Government boat will deliver it to us here. Just at present our boats are undergoing repairs so it would be better to wait until they are back in commission. I can find out just when it will be convenient for them and let you know later.

We have subscriptions to many of the other magazines you mention and since we have little extra space I am afraid that I must turn down your kind offer.

Thank you very much again and you will be hearing from me soon.

Sincerely yours
