Nov. 8 - 1945

Dear Mom,

Your Oct. 27 letter came this afternoon – the first mail I’ve had since I came into this new section – Sect. 42.  I hope the next time I move it’ll be on my way home – and I think it should come in the next three months (I hope!).

I am very glad to hear that Paul got home – not once – but twice!!  I told him he would get home before me – 3 or 4 months before at that too!!  I bet he was thrilled to see the farm in autumn.  I’d be more than thrilled to see it any time, for that matter.  I’m tickled to hear about Gizmo the cat, especially to discover that Daddy gets a kick out of it.  Anyhow – the farm really is the proper place to have a cat or a dog, or both – wouldn’t seem quite right without a couple pets around.

Tell Dad I don’t know of any chance of getting a rifle – all taken by fellows in infantry. Officers sometimes get pistols or rifles.

Well I guess that’s about all there is to say this time.  Please all of you keep well and healthy – I’ll be seeing you all sooner than you might have expected.

                                                                                                Your loving son,

                                                                                                            Chuck
