Dear Mom and Pop:

I received your letter yesterday and was glad to hear from you.

The reason I haven’t been home these past weekends is that I’d like to see some of the things they have around here. The weekend before last I went down to the beach in Maryland and got a fair tan. Last weekend I went down to Luray Caverns in Virginia, which is about 90 miles from D.C. It was really worth seeing. I’m going to wait till the weekend of the 4th before I come home again. Then I won’t be home the weekend after the fourth as I have a whole weekend watch. That’s the kind of thing I’ll have to be doing since they moved us over to K barracks, in Arlington. They moved us over to the new barracks, because we work straight day work, and they want to get all the fellows that work shifts over at I so they can be close to the Navy Department.

Well there’s not much to say, so I’ll close these few lines for now. I’ll see you the fourth of July weekend.

All my love,

Alfred
