Dear Mom & Pop,

I just got your letter tonight and thought I would sit down and answer it right away.

The reason I was transferred from the Mt. McKinley was because I was supposed to report aboard there for Switcher transfer, not duty.  I was then sent over to this ship to work in the Technical Staff.  Today I started working in the Bureau of Ordinance office.  It’s all loaded up indirectly.

We’ll be leaving Bikini in about 15 days, and then head back to the States.  From there I think it will be Washington, D.C.  I guess you know what that means.  It’s about 2 ½ hours from Philadelphia.

Boy you should have seen that second A-bomb go off.  It was really a beautiful sight.  I didn’t get to see the first one but they say the second was much better.

I’m glad to hear you could get up to Aunt Sallies.  From that it sounds like you’re coming along pretty well.  But still don’t do too much.

The answer to your P.S. is yes.  We have anchored right off her starboard side.  I can have candy and Cokes, but I wouldn’t send them because I’ll probably be in the states soon anyway.

Well I’ll close these few lines.

Take care of yourselves.  Hope to see you soon.

All my love,

Alfred
