Dear Mon + Pap:

I received the letter from Pap, but didn’t have a chance to answer it until now. So Aunt Flora got married. That sure is a surprise. Boy the fellows are sure dropping out, and getting kicked out fast. Two fellows went A.W.O.L. on a fake pass and come in stewed. They got a captain most, kicked out of school and got general sea duty.

We get the day off this Friday so a bunch of us are going to go to a U.S.O. someplace and dance. That’s about all you can do in Las Vegas. Well I guess I’ll close these few lines and hit the sack because I have to go on guard duty at 2 o’clock. Tell everybody that I’ll write to them as soon as I can.
