Dear Mom and Pop:

Well here it is Christmas Day. We’re having a pretty nice Christmas but not like we were home.  The Red Cross gave us stockings filled with all kinds of stuff.  The Chaplain gave each fellow a box of Vellum writing paper, and some children from around here someplace sent some little presents.  I got a tube of Listerine tooth paste from one of them.  Here’s what I got in my stocking this morning.  Pack of playing cards, safety razor, razor blades, readers digest, Ellery Queen mystery book, can of shoe polish, cake of soap, comb, air mail stationary, and pipe tobacco.  It was pretty nice.  Last night we had fruit cake and egg nogg.

I got the box from Aunt Sally and I wrote right away and thanked her.

I’m going to try to get back to duty about Thursday and try to get weekend liberty.

I’ll send your presents as soon as I can.  I’m not allowed to leave the ward, so I can’t go to the Canteen.

Well Mom I guess I’ll close now and get ready for a big turkey dinner.

     All my love

Alfred
