Dear Pauline –

Received your letter, if I disappointed all of you I’m very sorry. If I do make the trip it will be another short visit. There are several reasons, one is I have to report to the insurance office Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 10 in the morning. My insurance check is due this week, it may come Thurs., Fri., or Sat. The mail man makes two trips a day and if I’m not around when it comes somebody may hijack the mail box and go south with my 16 bucks.

The company is calling the men back to work according to the seniority list, a friend of mine went to work Monday – there’s no saying when I  may receive a telegram to report for work, it may come at 10 or 11 o’clock at night, it’s happened before. I wouldn’t want to lose out the first day, as I will go back on my old job, other wise they may put me on the hard job.  So tell ma not to feel too bad about it, after I go back to work and get all lined up, I’ll come home even if I have to take a couple of days off on my own hook.

As for the birthday remembrance, well just skip it, thanks a lot for the thought anyway. The dough ma sent me I’ll repay later on with interest. Suppose I receive my insurance check on the telegram Sat. that means I would have to take a bus Sunday – that’s a 9 hour trip and I’ve got to be in Detroit Tuesday at ten o’clock to report, otherwise I’ll lose out on a 16 dollar check for that week. So you see that don’t give me much time just to say hello and goodbye. Well, Pauline, whatever other disappointments you and ma may encounter, I hope they turn up to be small ones.

            Your bro,

            Pete
