Thurs. Sept. 28

Dear Mom and Dad,

I thought I’d drop you a short line to let you know how everything is going, but I haven’t got much time as lights go out in just a little bit.

I started day before yesterday working up at the infirmary, from 8:00 A.M. till 8:00 P.M. everyday. It gives me something to do and helps pass the time. I sure do like it. I’ve been helping give shots and blood tests and pills for everything imaginable. In the army no matter what’s wrong with you they give you pills and more pills.

All the fellows are pretty disgusted up here, same as I was until I got something to occupy my mind that I like. The doctors tell me there are a lot of openings in the Medical Corps. I wouldn’t mind taking a whirl at it. I’ve been trying ever since I got here to get in up there, and finally made it yesterday. I get all the dirty work for a while. But I don’t mind. It’s interesting and I’m learning a lot. All the fellows up there are swell from the Colonel down to the Sergeant.

It sure seemed good to talk to you a little while yesterday morning. I wish I could have said hello to dad also.

Well, I’m pretty tired so I think I’ll turn in. Tell everybody hello for me and I’ll be seeing them before they know it.

It might be quite a while though. It seems like most of the fellows going out are going to New Jersey.

Goodbye until later and write me after as you can.

            Love to all,

                        Jack.
