My darling wife:                                                                                                            Aug. 8, 1945

Two letters from you today, and this time it only took six days.  Pretty soon I’ll be thinking you are over here.

I had to laugh at that letter you wrote Tuesday, after you had a few drinks.  It was very cute.  I like to hear you that way sometimes, I get a big kick out of you.  I sure wish I could have been there with you.  I’d like to have that something good you had for me.  Just keep yourself ready for me and one of these fine days I’ll be there in your arms.  I love you my darling Maggie.

Now for the important thing.  Do you remember how you felt when you saw your ring?  Well that’s how I felt today.  Your picture came Maggie and its wonderful.  I am so proud with it.  The boys still wonder why you picked me.  I often wonder the same when I look at you.  I just can’t explain or tell you what I think of it.  I’m just speechless.  The first thing I did when I saw it was to kiss you, I just couldn’t help myself.  Your eyes are so blue, just like they were when I last saw you.  Oh maggie but I love you.

I am glad you like your perfume.  I also picked that out of our P.X. catalog and it looked good to me.  What I can’t understand is how you got two bottles.  You were supposed to get “breathless” but I didn’t know anything about the other, “fabulous.”  I thought I smelled something when I read and answered your letter last night.  But the perfume on letter 1/8 which you say is “fabulous”, I think it is wonderful.  I’m not kidding you, but I could smell this letter of yours in the mail sack.  It sure seems to be good stuff and I like it a lot.

Some good news just came over the radio while I am writing.  Russia just declared war on Japan.  Oh honey, I have my fingers crossed.  I sure wish we could get out of here now and be on our way back by the time it ends.

I see you still hold your charms.  You still have men sweating you out.  But they are in for a surprise.  I have my lease on you, and I’ll never give it up.  What do you mean you loved Bob in a different way?  Can you give me an explanation?

You must be thinking of me pretty hard lately.  Cause I have a funny feeling, and you are on my mind all the time.  It seems to come in streaks.  Somedays I can’t do a thing all day because of you.  You know that wouldn’t pay in civilian life.  I’d probably get fired.

I don’t hope we get like Ruth and Bud.  If I go out drinking, I want you with me.

I am going to pray extra hard now.  It just can’t last much longer.  I do want to come home to you so awfully bad.

I love you with all my heart,

Pres.
