My Dearest Husband:

Just a few lines to let you know I’m thinking about you (as usual) and I love you with all my heart. I am going to try to get to bed early tonight for I am not feeling good. I think I may be getting a bit of Allen’s flu.

I feel it’s only fair to you, to tell you I am now fat. I weigh now 136 pounds. I don’t know where it came from because I eat hardly, and I take my exercises every day. When Mother gets home I think I’ll go to the doctor.

I mopped all of the floors today hah that was Elsie’s extent. I made labors for her usual run. I had sauerkraut wieners and dumplings, and apple sauce for supper.

No better again today. Do you know anything about the 867th Ordinance H.A.M. Co? This boy is our neighbor, his APO is about the same as yours (467) and he went overseas around the same time as you. His name is T/5 Donald Schroder, so if you recognize the company look him up, I know him When.

I love you Preston so much. My longing for you is a steady ache, and my days are meaning less without you.

I encourage you to write immediately telling me what to do about getting up a place: Where in Allentown specifically you want to live (tell me a few locations and where you don’t want to live) How much of a place can we afford, 4-5-6,000? How much you should make a week, 800 forth because I want to try to find something when I go in July. I want to build preferably: I suppose you are set agents it but you realize the point I am trying to make don’t you? It’s many saved happiness earned.

Maybe I could at least buy a lot and then when you get home you could get the G.I. loan, or I could apply for the FHA loan and start building. Only I want your approval on so many things and I want you to take part in it too. You’ve missed out on so much already. Now tell me all these things and more.

                                                 Goodnight, Preston – Please Write.

                                                     All my Love and kisses,

                                                      Maggie, Allen and Barbara.
