France

My dearest wife:

Just finished a bottle of champagne and it was pretty good. I wish you could be here to taste it, I think you would like it too.

My moral was boosted again today. Two letters from you and a package from mother, my first one. She sent me some cookies, a box of Tommy Farmer and some cheese and crackers and a few bars of candy. It sure was tasty – not having anything from home for such a long time.

I was glad to hear you are getting my mail. I try to write every night and if I don’t – well something came up which made the reason, and something else- there maybe a time when I won’t be able to write every day, so I am taking advantage of every opportunity. I do love you – you dope, even more than you love me, so you can just imagine how much love I have for you. If I could only be with you right now, I would show you and prove it to you. You do know I love you – don’t you?

No honey, I wasn’t lit up at all on all that stuff I told you I had to drink. And another thing sweety, I haven’t had a drink since that time. I am dying to see that little girl of ours. She seems to be very cute, and I guess she is. I’d even like to hold her and put her to sleep. Maybe my time will come soon honey, but then, I guess I’d rather hold you and put you to sleep. Alright with you?

I thought you were easy to pick out on that picture of Roger Young day. I could tell that kid of ours any place, and that rear of yours as well. You can’t fool your old man Maggie.

Spring must be here too for it seems to be staying warm now, and everything is so green. The country side looks beautiful, but I don’t think it can compare to Pa. The hedgerows look pretty, but caused us – rather the army, a lot of trouble during the fighting here.

Those Russians I was telling you about are trustworthy and sincere. They are the best people I have ever met over here. I wouldn’t trade 10 frenchmen for one Russian, and they can really work. Two of them build my supply room and done a darn good job. I guess you were wondering what they are doing in France – well – when the Germans invaded Russia they captured some of the people (men and women) and brought them here for slave labor until we came and set them free. They are expecting to go back home soon to fight for Russia. I don’t think they are very handsome though. Anyway why worry you have me don’t you?

Yes honey, take about a dozen or more pictures of just yourself please. I don’t know how well I’ll ever be able to get any old clocks for Dad. The people here are all living in their houses and I couldn’t very well go there. Right now I’m in no position to get any. Maybe later.

Did you get that $65? I know it is going to be hard for you to bank any honey, but it may be possible. Just think what you and I are fighting and working for, and maybe there will be just a few things that aren’t exactly necessary. Just think of our little home every time you buy something honey. You’ll be able to save, for I love you.

Goodnight my dear.

All my love, Pres.
