Dearest Clara,

Darling I stood up on  deck until it got s dark I couldn’t see any longer, so I came down to write a few lines to you. Although there isn’t any news, maybe I can think of something to write. I have to make my bed after awhile, but I have plenty of time to do that. My eyes are sore to-day, I don’t know if I got some thing in them, or just aught cold in them, I hope your eyes are getting better. I know they were hurting you some when I left. Darling I still have your last letter I got just before I left the state, I have read it so many times I’ll some have it learned by heart, but I sure enjoy reading it. Be a good momma until I get back home, Darling and I’ll do the same. Write soon.

With lots of love and kisses, to my Darling wife Clara

                                                                                                                Your husband Johnny S.
