                        Dearest Clara,

As I am still riding on the ship, and have nothing to do, I will write my darling wife, It is a little cloudy to-day, but is pretty nice other wise, I bet it is getting pretty and green around home now, It sure would be nice to be there and enjoy the summer but I can’t so you will have to enjoy it for both of us Honey! I have seen a few flying fish since I starting sailing, they look just like a white fish only they jump out of the water and sail for a short wave through the air it sounds silly, but it’s true, Darling I am still feeling pretty good, and hope you are feeling the same way. Honey, there isn’t much room to write on this paper but it’s better than none of that. I still have my mustache, it looks a little different but it still there. Darling write often and I’ll be good for you.

With lots of love and kisses

                                                            To my darling wife Clara,

                                                                                    Johnny.
