Dear Hank,

You probably hate receiving these letters as much as I do but it can’t be helped. The air mail service is so over burdened they have asked us to send our mail free or write V mail. I just finished writing you a long letter but it will take three or four weeks to get to you.
I am still figuring on getting back one of these days but not too much. I wrote a friend of mine who lives in New York City and asked about apartments. It seemed that if I could find a furnished apartment it would be much better than a hotel room. What do you think?

Have you been back to Rome anytime since you were transferred. People write and tell me that the town is really fouled up now. I guess all the bums in town hang out at the “Hall” now.

            Write soon.

                                                                                    Love
