Dear Mother,

By airmail your letters take 4 days.  I wrote Mrs. Kogler sometime ago, it’s funny she hasn’t gotten anything yet.

I have mailed letters to everyone I know so if they didn’t get them it isn’t my hard luck.

Did you get that picture of Audrey from Watland’s yet?  If you did, get a Kodak mailer for it and send it.  Let me know how it is before you send it though.

Didn’t get into town yesterday because I didn’t have my Cadet Cap in time.  You almost have to kiss their ass to get out of here once a week

And we aren’t allowed any food in the barracks so don’t ever send any packages.  They have to be disposed of the same day we get them.

The mail is coming in fair.  Mail call is twice a day here.

Yes, I know Donald Cameron but I never heard of Squadron 113.

It is kind of chilly today.  I will be here at San Antonio for a long time but not in the same barracks.  All the training will be in the Gulf Coast Area.

I believe I have told you all about the exams already in another letter.

I mailed you a couple of folders on San Antonio and the Cadet Center here so be looking for them.

I also got a letter from Bob Cook and I guess he’s really having a time of it.

I would like to have Harold’s address at Santa Anna.  That’s the West Coast Cadet Reception Center.  How can he come home?

I’m writing this while waiting for drill or some other crap.

I’m going to try and go to the show tonight but I don’t know yet.  You almost have to kiss their ass to do that.

Some day this war will end and I’ll take great pleasure in knocking in some teeth in a few of these S.O.B.’s.  There are a few guys that get to lippy once in a while.  All in all it’s a lot of fun here though.

                                                                        So long,

                                                                                    Mel
