Somewhere in Australia

April 16th, 1942

Dear Mom, Dad & Marie,

Your letters have been coming in nicely. The last one was dated Mar. 2nd. Just a little over a month which is not bad at all.

So now Elizabeth has one more in the family. Well if she is a cute as the others then everything will be O.K..

Since Easter Sunday I have been able to go to church in a real church for a change. I also was at Holy Communion on Easter Sunday. Last Sunday I did something that I have not done in quite a long time. I went to night services at a very lovely church. I wish I could tell you where but that is not possible at this time.

I was very glad to hear that the bus comes so close to home now. I guess you were right when you said we were getting more like New York every day.

My mail has been very nice and includes a letter from Aunt Bessie and Uncle Cab, several from Margaret and one from Jessie. Also from several of the boys who were at Scott with me and from some people I met in St. Torris.

I also received a card from the Readers Digest which stated that I would receive the Readers Digest for one year. It was signed “As a birthday remembrance from” T.E. Brenan. (I tried to copy the signature as near as possible.) Do you know anything about this? I thought it might have been from Father Brennan. My name was spelt wrong and I wondered if it could have been meant for me. It was spelt (Aubrey C. Meredenia)

The cookies have not reached me yet, I am sorry to say. Next time you send me anything make it a carton of cigarettes as foodstuff will spoil before it reaches here.

I hope by this time my letters are reaching you. It is quite a problem to write as we must be very careful what we say in them.

In fact to-day is April 23rd and you will see that I started this on the 16th. We have been so very busy that it has been hard to get time to write.

Mail from home is still coming in and I am wondering when I will be able to find time to answer it all.

Perhaps you will remember Russ Johns, the radio announcer at Fredericksburg. Well I received a swell letter from him. He is in the Production Dept of the Short Ware Division of C.B.S. in New York.

Another letter from Aunt René and a couple from Margaret and one from “Swannie,” (the girl in the picture) arrived with Russ’ letter.

Well all letters must end sometime and I guess this is the time to end this one.

So with love to you all and to Frank and Alma too, I am,

                                                                                                Your son,

                                                                                                Aubrey

P.S. Don’t worry about me as I am fine.
