Dear Joe,
I received your letter today and I was certainly glad to hear from you. It is a swell picture you sent and I’m not the only one who thinks so. I am going down town Monday and have some pictures taken and I’ll send you one with my next letter. Gosh wasn’t it a coincidence that a good friend of my sister turned out to be one of your buddies. “It’s a small world isn’t it”? Tell Eddy Ryan that my sister is having her picture taken too and because he asked for it, she is going to send him one. My sister and I both agree that there is going to be “two severe cases of shock” when these pictures arrive. I went roller skating and I’m beginning to understand why you like it so much. Of course, I’m still a little shakey because I’ve only been on roller rink skates a few times. I think it’s much more solid than ice skating. By that I mean that when you fall you stay put but after you fall on ice skates “you slide all over the place”.
My cousin
who is in the navy (now overseas) has named his life jacket after me. I told
him that I just because he gave it my name it’s going to be hard to keep a
float with your gun and his life jacket I guess I’m “ sort of adopted” into the
navy. Do you agree? I hope you don’t mind my using your ending, but this is
stating W.A.B.C
