Dear Billy:

HAPPY V-E DAY!

Even though yesterday was not official V-E Day, everyone certainly treated it as such.  According to the pictures in the papers, I don’t think one could have dropped a peanut out of a window up at Times Square without hitting someone.  It was just jammed.

Judging from the reports in the papers, you folks over in Paris did a little celebrating yesterday, too, even though it wasn’t officially V-E Day.

It’s very quiet downtown today.  I think most of the offices are closed.  There’s hardly anyone in our building and even certain departments in the sun have gone home.  I guess most everyone is up at Times Square.

All the department stores are closed and I guess most of the smaller stores, too.  I phoned Tiffany’s today to ask about the clock and some man answered the phone.  I told him what I want and he replied, “I’m sorry, Madam, our entire establishment is closed today.”

I shall cut some pictures out of the papers and send them to you, so you’ll be able to see some of the celebration.

On Friday I sent you another package containing a Schrafft’s fruit cake, two pairs of shorts and two shirts.  I have your white jacket all ready to send and shall probably do so tomorrow.  I want to get some candy, or something, to put in the package.

I’m surprised you haven’t received my package of March 14th by this time.  It certainly is slow.

Kay still hasn’t had any word from the government about ham.  I certainly hope and pray he’s all right.

By the way, if you still have yesterday’s and today’s “Stars and Stripes,” please send them to me.  I would certainly like to see them.  According to the papers, “Stars and Stripes” put out a special victory edition yesterday.

            I’ll write you again tomorrow.

Bye for now, Honey Lamb.  Let me know if you want anything special.
