Dear Mom,

I haven’t heard from you for a few days, but thought I would write just the same.

Got a letter from Bernice. She says they are all well. She says that you are coming down to visit her. I guess her and Kyle have a nice home now.

How is the weather over there these days? Must be beginning to look like spring isn’t it?

How is Laton getting along these days? Must be pretty busy.

I am enclosing a snapshot I took back in England in harvest time. Kinda pretty, don’t you think. Those black spots in the upper right hand corner are crows, or “Rooks” as they are called over there. England sure is a pretty place in the summer time. Think I will save my money and take a trip over there after the war.

Went to the dentist day before yesterday and had a wisdom tooth pulled. Am going back in a week and hav[ing] a couple of them filled.

The dentist said “Are you ready to have that tooth pulled now?” I was pretty scared. He said “It’s going to hurt like hell.” I said “O K go ahead” and darned if he didn’t have it pulled all the time he was talking to me.

Got a letter from Freda. She is going to enlist in the army, because they would draft her anyhow if she doesn’t enlist.

The weather is getting to be pretty nice over here now. Boy! It was cold there for a while. [Maybe] I can get out once in a while now and kinda look this country over. I think this country will be pretty nice in the summer. Of course, you can’t buy anything.

            Well, write soon,

                        Love, John

P.S. Boy this pen is writing good now.
