No Mail Today

Evie sweetheart,

Things are going along quietly as usual.

There is still no shore leave for officers.  It seems that that guy McAree really screwed us all up.  He is restricted to the ship while we are in Japanese waters but so are all the rest of us!

A correspondent gave me some Jap money today.  Notice the peculiar odor.  Everything over here smells musty—even the Japs themselves.  We did see some very beautiful flower gardens and they are very clever at landscaping.  There is a low very dense evergreen tree that has a beautiful shape—just ideal for a Christmas tree.

Getting back to the money—one Yen is worth about 6˘ and there are 100 Sen in one Yen.  The bills then are worth 3˘  each—the coins are worth $0.0006 or 6/100˘.  I have no idea what that would buy!

Last night at dinner we were each given a little Jap flag.  Someone found a hundred or so in a storehouse, so I have added that to my pile of junk.

I am quite concerned about all your worrying and your imagination.  I have tried to tell you many times that I am alright, I won’t stay in the Navy or volunteer for anything, and I won’t do anything I shouldn’t.  Now for Pete’s sake stop worrying!

We are waiting for news of our next move but we do not know where or when it will be.  We have heard rumors of some admiral coming aboard for a few weeks—hope its ok for transportation!

Goodnight my sweetheart I love you more and more every day.  Take care of yourself.  Remember all those “postwar plans.”  It might be difficult to carry them all out if you are not in the best of health!

                                                Always your own
