Dear Mom-

I am now at my permanent station-somewhere in England- living under swell conditions-we are quartered in private homes-and I seem to have picked on of the best. Our landlord has a small private movie (cinema to him) and I can see that we are going to be his star customers-yesterday we saw “Pride of the Yankees” with Gary Cooper- it really is swell. The town itself reminds me of Forest Hills which of course was built on English principles-the people are friendly and hospitable-of course it is different here but I think I’m going to enjoy my stay. We’ll be using English money- so I’ve sent mine to be exchanged. Goods are scarce here – but everyone seems to take it a matter of course. I’m writing Gene again-hope I can locate him and that he is not too far away. I received my first letter today- from a girl I met in South Carolina- I want a lot of letters- so keep ’em coming- tell Ginnie Happy Birthday- sorry I couldn’t send a card-hope this whole thing will be over by her next one and that I’ll be home- From Cheatham’s letter I judge that he expects to return from combat soon- He’s been at it a long time now-he also said Guthrie had his orders to return to the states-

It seems that it is going to be different to get candy here so I’d like you to send some please if you can-commercial candy keeps better I think- write soon and often-

                                    Love,

                                                Jack
