Dear Mom,

Another day and just as hard as the rest. We march and do the Manual of Arms until you feel like you can’t pull the rifle up again but you do. When we arrived here a guy told us that when we were on the march for a long time it would seem that we had made our last step, but we would have two or three miles more left in us. I believe him after today.

I had 5 hot cakes this morning for breakfast and I enjoyed them.

We’ve had one mail call but I didn’t get any letter.

Yesterday we weren’t on a march out to the Gas Chamber and had a lecture on Gas Masks. When we came back we had a five minute rest period. After that we had an oreal [oral] quiz on the gas mask. You see how much time they give you to learn something [?].

Tonight we are going to have inspection. We have inspection of our huts and bunks 2 or 3 times a day but tonight we are having inspection of our locker boxes.

We have just had supper and we actually had cake for supper. It wasn’t anything but bread and it was tough but it had icing on it.

Well hasn’t anything else happened so I [I’ll] stop now.

                                    Write soon

                                                Your Son,

                                                Joe

P.S. Tomorrow we have 10th day inspection.
