Dear Mom and Dad:

I received Dad’s letter today and it was very welcome and refreshing.

Well I received my short haircut and do some of the boys look funny. Yesterday I was made Captain of the Deck, which means keeping the floor spotless. I have a 10 man detail assigned to me to do the work. It’s sort of like having the Cosst’Mge again. I am also checking the nervous men’s lockers and helping them get their’s in shape as I was most fortunate than them and caught on a lot faster.

Tomorrow we take our IQ tests and at 8 in the evening we get our swimming test, which I know I’ll immediately pass.

We have word that we are to graduate from our Boot training on Oct. 13, and catch a train to Baltimore about 10.30 in the morning. As yet I have had no further word about visitations.

Well we are now going to a lecture so I must close.
