Dearest Grandma, Grandpa and Family:

I received your letter last week but I didn’t want to answer it unitl I moved. You see I’m in a new outfit now the 2nd Bomb Gp, 49th Bomb Sqd. If I would have written you sooner I would not have gotten your mail for quite a while that’s why I waited till now. I’m still in Foggia, Italy but I will be moving out in a month or so. You see I have 83 points and all the men who have below 85 points are going in the army of occupation over here and that is where I’m going. I believe we are going to Austria. I don’t know exactly how long I’ll be over here. It may be a year or two yet. Do I like it personally[?] No, but I can’t do anything about. I may get a break next month when they lower the point system. I believe when I do come home again it will be for good but the trouble is when will that be. It’s awfully hot over here in the day now and cold at night. I’m quite a ways from town now around 25 miles. I’ll get something for you before I leave this place I promise you that. I got a letter from Gloria too but I can hardly make out her writing so if you can give me Carl’s address I’ll be very glad to write him. Glo sent me it but I can’t make it out. I guess her and I are in the same boat. She writes bad and I write twice as bad ha ha. I guess you are wondering how I got 83 points well I have 8 battle stars which is 40 points, 15 month overseas up to May 12 that’s 15 points, and 28 points in the army which makes 83. Now if I were married and had 3 kids I’d be discharged ha ha. Where is Gumpy at? Has he gone over yet? How many points does he have? It’ll be two years soon since I’ve last saw Balto and it seems like a million to me. One thing I hate over here. You see the same things and do the same things day in and day out. Well the old saying is that war is hell. Any news around home[?] I’d like to go to the Swiss Alps for the occupation and then I could learn how to ski maybe. We may get a break I don’t know. It seems that I get all the bad breaks some how or other. Oh well there’s worse places then over here I guess. Well this is about all the news I have for the time being so I guess I will say so long until the next time and make sure that you write my correct address. I’ll say so long for now and lots of love to all. I hope its not to long before I’ll see all of you. Give my regards to Aunt Cecil and all and don’t worry about Gumpy is he’s in the Pacific he’s ok in the Air Corps now believe me I know. So long for now and may the dear Lord bless all of you and keep all of you safe for me always and from all harm.

Love and Kisses
