P.S. I was all out of Air Mail stamps

Dear Grandparents,

I know you all have been waiting a long time to hear from me, but its not my fault.  We have been very busy and on the go for a long time.  I received your package today and every thing was swell except, yes you guessed it, the caramels.  They were all molded.  The cakes and candies were all in good condition.  There isn’t anything that I can write about or what’s happening. You can read all about it in the papers. We had a tough trip and I am glad we all got back safe and sound.  I am well and lost 4 lobs, I now weigh 134 lbs just the right weight.  I was glad to hear that Uncle Norm got home and I would sure liked of to seen him.  I bet you were all surprise when he would in.  I hear that Cap went over, well it’s the only way to get this war over. And Howard worrying my mother about joining the Navy.  A kid 17 years old joining the Navy, why if he only knew good he has got it at home he’d forget about it.  You know we’re not playing games out hear. Its restless days and sleepless nights never knowing when you’re going to get it.  It doesn’t worry me a bit, because I put my faith in God and I know he will take care of me.  Glad to hear that everyone is well.  Its no use making any more caramels, because they just won’t in the mail. I am on watch now and it is 11:30 PM and I have to wake up my relief. Let hear from you soon and if you don’t hear from me keep on writing.

                                                                                                Love to you all,

                                                                                                Charles
