Dear Roy,

A letter came yesterday the one telling me about Jeanie the monkey. Jean said “It wouldn’t be me it was named after!” Even if Jeanie isn’t as smart maybe it’s cause she is younger. I don’t believe even monkeys are born and nothing to learn. So there is hope.

Bice is in San Francisco. He called Jean the other day. I don’t know when he will be home. Soon I think, though, Jean says now they have decided they won’t go to St. Louis till they are on their feet and money saved. So if I know my babies they will be here awhile. However, finding a job, I’m afraid, will be a problem in any city.

I’ve told you something so many times it’s getting funny. I don’t think, in fact I know, you don’t get all my letters. So I’ll tell you again, the bag came almost right away after you left.

The latest on the bank is that the August allotment wasn’t received by the bank. I wired them yesterday so I’m going to call Griffiths today and see if I can straighten it out. I’ve not heard from anyone. They have a bad check but knowing the balance I figured the combinations and if there is a bad check, which there must be, it must be Brick’s so I’m going to call him today too. The last time I called Brick I said “I hope I never hear from you again.” He laughed and said he hoped so, too.

I ended up by taking Ruth to the play Thursday night (Ruth at the Hospital) and we liked it and had fun.

I get my phone on Tuesday (Dear Dr. Hockeet) I suppose there goes my last vestige of privacy.

We have had such gorgeous weather but it’s now pretty cold and rainy.

That’s a lousy shame about your poor food. I hope right soon you get some decent. We aren’t getting anything better yet although we are able to get cigs now.

Mrs. Nelson is on her vacation beginning today and she asked me to keep the kids in line and set a good example.

Dr. Hockeet is still with us but that’s all I know.

Did I ever tell you Jeans actual weight? She went from 185 to 135 and she could still stand to lose 10 or 15 pounds. She’s feeling better for longer periods of time now and looks fine. She’s quit wearing that god awful pompadour which pleases me.

I darn near overslept today and would have for the Lice don’t work on Sat. and I would have except the clock stopped ticking and that woke me up.

I haven’t had my stinging letter from Norman yet. At last I’ve Jean’s eyes opened as far as he is concerned.

Did I tell you Piggy and Judy drove from Providence R.I. in an old Olds and Bob was shipped out to Bermuda a few days before the war ended?

Its face washing time and must hurry. Will tell you what I find out about the allotment and so forth. Bye for now.

                                                                                    Love,

                                                                                                Cara.
