Dear Mary and all,

Had 2 letters from you this week and enjoyed them a lot. I’m still here in Germany and am well and doing fine. Hope it isn’t too much longer until I can be getting home as I’m down tired of this type of life. We have no lights where we are now but we are supposed to get them but sometimes have my doubts if we will. It’s not as nice here but one good thing we do have some chicken around. They lay good but you have to get the egg as soon as they are layed or someone will beat you to it. The ones that don’t lay won’t last long as we will eat them. Also have quite a few tame rabbits around and have some real little ones. We take better care of them than the Germans did. The chickens are getting tame now as I can take eggs out from under them while they are on the nest. At first they used to scare away but they sit still now. Have fried eggs every night and they are really good. Must close for now but will write more letters.

                                                            Love to all,

                                                                        Roland
