Officers’ Mess

Bolling Field, D.C.

Thur. nite.

Dear Folks,

Well here it is Thursday, how the time does fly.  I had such a wonderful time at home last Sunday that I hope to make it again real soon.  I was a pretty tired boy when I got back here but it was worth it.  It was sure nice to see all the folks again.  I sure managed to hit it at the right time.

Now hold on to your seats.  I don’t think that you are going to have to deny any more reports that Helen and I are engaged.  I know the whole thing sounds nuts with me being here in the Air Corps but you know how those things go, there isn’t much you can do about it, it just happens.  I’ll let you know when its official, which think will be in about two weeks.  Helen is coming down Sun. Oct. 5th and then I feel sure that it can be made public.  Wait until you hear from me until you say anything.  Clyde and Betty didn’t believe us when we told them, but in Helen’s last letter she said that they were very happy about the whole thing.  Now don’t you fret about us doing anything foolish, after all I think much too much about Helen and my future to go off half cocked.  It was a hard fight Mom, but I’m damn glad I won.

My tooth has been acting up the last few days, had my jaw all puffed up, so I went to the dentist this morning and he is taking good care of me, so don’t worry about it, it really hasn’t given me any pain it just hurts like the devil.

When you bring down my coat, you can also bring along about three or four nice bath towels, they only issue two and you know how long they last when you use them every day.

Well I’m going to say goodnight now and sign off.  I hope I haven’t shocked you too much.  You can’t even guess how happy I am.  So long now and take care of yourselves.

Love to all,

Walt
