                                                                                                            7:30 AM Wed-

Dearest Mother,

While my mind is fresh I’ll scratch off a few lines and let you know that I’m still kicking. I feel pretty good today after three days of “below-par” headaches, etc.

The doctor said yesterday they still thought I have the “cere-cidio-stuff” but that is all they will tell me, so, that’s all I can tell you at present. How much longer I have to be here and etc., I don’t know as of yet. One of my colonels is in the ward next to me with TB, so I guess I’m plenty lucky too get out as easily as I did.

My “first sergeant” and another boy from my company are here too, so I have a good bit of company. My commanding officer came by to see me yesterday and quite often some of the boys from the company stop by. I had a long letter from Jimmie Joe yesterday saying he was working and training pretty hard now and was coming to see me if he ever got a chance. We are a long ways apart and transportation is scarce.

I had letters from Estes and Mir. yesterday and one from Martha two days before. Also, two from Joe Moody. Joe is in Fort Worth, TX in a hospital getting his game leg treated. He said they found that one hipbone was slightly out of place and was causing a nerve in his back and leg to pain him, so he thinks he will be ok so now. He has really had tough luck with his and his family’s health lately and he said it has cost him plenty.

It was pretty hot yesterday but its rather cloudy today. Still its pretty sultry and sweat is beginning to roll! I haven’t been out since Sunday as news has accumulated to write about.

I’m wondering if you are still in N.C.? No doubt all of you are welcoming the coming of spring. From the tone of your letter no one should complain about the heat this summer! Estes has already begun to plan his camps this summer.

The war news is still very good as far as we can see over here. The Japs really meant to hold Iwo, didn’t they? Looks like our armies may get moving into Germany now and surely hope they can finish there soon. I didn’t see how one little nation stands up under all the pounding she is getting so long! She must have been plenty strong six years ago. Even yet, we have a long way to go.

Write when you can. I trust you are still enjoying yourself. Will write back again soon-

                                                                                    Love-

                                                                                                Russell
