Tues. Sept. 4-43

Dearest Honey,

I received two very nice letters today. One was the large one and I really mean large, ten pages #48 and the other you wrote on the train. It answered one question for me. I know how you got to NY. It was good to hear that you received the check. The smaller one was quite a surprise. Were you surprised too? About the income tax, I’m pretty sure we have paid all we are required to. That $30.00 from the check was quite a blow. I’m sorry I didn’t take all the exemptions and then have you take all from Sept. on. We would have saved money. Though there might be a rebate at the end of the year. I hope so. I’m pretty lazy on the law as to how much of ‘42 tax has to be paid. Maybe you can check with Frances or someone who has had to pay too. You know of course that you won’t have to pay any from your salary if you’re taking the full exemption.

As they say here, you’re right on the hall when it comes to camping. I’d love to be there to see the jars and help store them for the winter. You’ll have to stop now that you are back at school, remember I don’t want my honey sweet wearing herself out. That’s a command too.

I received the package of cookies today too. They are delicious Bunny. You didn’t tell me that you had put nuts and raisins in the cookies. You shouldn’t make them so delicious. I’ll gain all I’ve lost. I’m afraid I’ll give you the wrong impression about the amount I’ve lost. I’m quite sure it isn’t much. I still have that odd formation in front. The one you always use to laugh about. Your statement about “it never rains but it pours” was true today. I received a pound vacuum tin of cards and one of cookies from Monty from NY. I’ll keep yours and eat every one myself and pass the ones from Monty around.

I don’t quite understand how the maid is mixed up but I received you Sept. 4 letter, the first one that has arrived with my new address (#50) yesterday. Today I received #48 and the little Bunny letter your wrote on the train, also the cookies. I’ll be looking for another sugar report from my “Super Lovely” tomorrow. Maybe it will be all shows your weekend with Margaret, and also how you spent Sunday. Guess you know how I fell Sunday, speaking about books. That was some book I sent you. Hope it wasn’t too bad. You didn’t say anything about a coat fur yourself. Did you look at them al all? What have you decided to do? If necessary I’d use the Personal to get enough money for a good coat. You’ll make me really happy honey dearest if you get yourself a nice outfit. Coat, hat, shoes, gloves, and when you get around to it, a dress. When you have them, tell me the color you’ve chosen. I’ll hunt the little things that go well to my very own. Sweetheart, panties and bra, any other little things you may need. It really would give me the biggest thrill. Hope I haven’t shocked my Bunny. I’m afraid I am still that big bad wolf. I always was. But of course I’ll never howl after anyone but my own Bunny. You must get the coat and everything before I can get the other little things. So it’s up to you from now on. Of course there is the money, but remember that’s not to stop you after awhile I’ll be able to take care of some of it. Remember I was thinking about a coat so why not get it now and I can help to take care of a little of it. That OK with you?

They say we won’t get a furlough from this camp. There just is no such thing even when we finish our course. We’ll have to wait until we are assigned to a permanent unit. This is just a replacement training center. We might leave this campus soon as we finish our course them we can have a furlough. These are all rumors but this one seems to be true. One of the instructors at school told us today. He hasn’t been home in eleven months. He just became an instructor and has to take his turn at the bottom of the list. They change the instructors constantly. So I might have a chance. Then my chance for a furlough would come around quite soon. If I have to wait too long though maybe you could come out for a week or so. Later in the fall, one of the fellows if having his wife visit him at the Guest House. The fare is about $30.00 one way but a return ticket is much less than twice that amount. I believe it would be about $50.00. That wouldn’t be too much would it dearest? I’ll try to save half of it. The ride would be nice of course but the nicest thing about it all would be seeing and holding my darling again. Having ones sweet sugar near seems to help an awful lot. I know Trembly and Robinson have changed. They seem to be walking on air these past few days. I’m going to hope and pray that I’ll be able to see you by Christmas anyway. Have you talked to Pop and mother about coming out lately? I suppose it would be a terribly long ride for them. I think my mother could make it but Pop would be pretty tired I think.

How is Mary? Has she returned from the hospital yet? How is she getting along? I guess it must be the first time she’s been away from home for such a longtime. What seemed to be the trouble? I know you said it wasn’t serious but I guess it’s always dangerous when you get to a hospital.

Bye for now Sweetheart. I’ll be looking for a letter tomorrow (and one everyday but remember you mustn’t write if you’re tired. Billions of kisses and one special one for Puss and also for V & Shana and Aphrodite)
