Friday

Diane sweetest,

Well no letter form you all this week so I know that you are as busy as the proverbial bee getting your nest in order for the Queen Bee (guess who that is) and for the return of the Big Shot bee (which is me). Gosh I’m getting all involved here, bees and I am not too sure of my bee culture anyway, especially the papa bee part.  It all seems out of kilter to me, anyway I’m no bee.  Regardless, I wish that I was there to help you.  I was going to wait and see if anything came in today so I could write an interesting letter, but will do that also if it does.

So much for that paragraph!! I have been under the weather for the last couple of days.  Have been to work but not that I felt much like it.  I caught myself a little dysentery someplace, which has really had me on the go and close to home.  Thought at first I might have gotten a little malaria, but guess everything is OK because I feel much better today and hope to stay that way.  The malaria rate runs pretty high in some of the places that I have to visit, and in fact, is pretty high right here.  They tell me you have to get it five times or more before they will send you home, so don’t wish me into it.  That’s too much to take.

Well, I have my leather shop all set up and ready for business.  Spent yesterday evening getting things established so I could work with it in the evenings.  Was I glad to see the footlocker come for that reason.  I have some leather on hand that I got on a recent trip which I believe that I spoke about.  I am going to finish that box I started in Tulsa some long time ago.  It looks a little crude to me now, but rather than waste the leather, I will finish it and I can use it myself in place of that old one I have.  I am going to try to get some of the thin leather next trip to make some things to send back to you for presents and what not.

I have gotten tired of losing so much money each week by not getting any lottery tickets, so this morning I sent the driver down especially to get a couple, so get set for a two thousand dollar increase in the exchequer.  I still have your silver dollar and will properly take care of using it one of these days when I have time to make a search for the number.  I guess that you don’t care though with which number we win the money do you?

I don’t get Danny. Damn I can’t seem to get anyone I want, and I have to have someone, that’s certain.  I wonder if there is any possible chance of getting Jelly ford.  Those people in the states hold on to a man like cement.  The TCs will turn them loose but FT.W doesn’t turn anyone loose on general principals.  It’s not right, for by comparison they are far better off.  I’m going to keep stabbing though until something happens.  Do you know anything about Jimmy Roberts?  I understood that he had a fall and seriously hurt his back.  He would fill the bill for me, for one.  Don’t mention any names to Charlie for he might not like me trying to rob him of his best men, though I don’t seem to be getting very far at it.  I also would put in for one Diane Day but am sure that that would be turned down also.  I think that I would prefer her to anyone that I could get.  Not much work out of her maybe, but boy what fun!!

Did you get the several money orders I sent you several (two) days ago? I sent them airmail special delivery, and figured that you should get them by Saturday the 3d of July.  I am also anxious, as I have said several times before, to get your colored picture (with case) and to hear what you thought of the blankets etc.  Be sure when you send the picture to do it airmail and to have it well backed with something stiff to prevent damage.

Little turnip seed I have to close in order to wait for your letter, which I know will be in today, in fact in a little while.  Loads of love to you dearest, hope you are fit and happy.
