                                                                                                Tuesday Morning

Dear Mom and Dad:

I sure had a surprise of my life two days ago.  We were beached the other day and here came another LST to beach along side of us.  I was watching her and I looked up on the conn and who did I see but Mack Dallas Drysdale.  The minute he saw me he got permission and came over.  Boy, did we have fun talking.  He was in on the invasion with us and will be with us from now on.  I thought you said he had gone to the Atlantic side, so I never was on the lookout for him.  I am watching out for Chief Clair though.  I know the number of his ship.  Mack got home for five days before they shipped him out.  He sure was lucky there.

We’re entitled now to the Philippine service ribbon.  Of course you can’t forget about the star.  Ha!  We earned it.  You ought to have seen those Jap Zeros go down.  It was a pretty sight.  You wasn’t scared but you sorta’ had a lump in your throat.  We were under bombing attacks all the time.  The entered in our service records where we was in on the invasion of Leyte, under fire and then followed up with reinforcements.

I can’t wait till I get back again and get some more mail.  I hope the Christmas packages make it in time.  Ha!  I’m trying to rush things.

Well, I’m running out of paper and also of what to say so until a later date.

                                                                                    Your son,

                                                                                                Bob
