Dear Mom and Dad,

Received about twelve letters today ranging from October 8 to October 23.  I sure was glad to get so much mail from you.  I received twenty-eight letters total.  One from Jerry Brown.  He told me what he had done up to date and that he is ready to go to sea anytime but first he gets a 15 day leave.  Say, those clippings you sent are swell.  They really make you feel good to receive them.  I’m glad I got a lot of gifts coming.  I also have some coming from June, Dottie, Jean, and George, and I know Ray will send me one, also Billie Davn.  I already have received Christmas cards.  It’s going to be tough being away this Christmas but you can always hope to be home for the next one.  I haven’t received any packages from you at all but when I do I’ll mention what was in them so you’ll know if I got them all.  The only package I have received from you was my picture album.  How’s Bob Chase now?  Mean as ever I bet.  I told you in my last V-mail that we was in the invasion of Leyte in the Philippines.  Tell dad he ought to see those Filipino girls.  Wow!!

You’re going to hear from Dottie Buckley, the girl from New Orleans.  She’s really keen so answer her.  She really writes a swell letter.  I’m enclosing a picture, one of the two she sent and a Japanese bill, a Dutch gilder.  The gilder is worth 53 cents in American money.  Tell Dad I have cigarettes too, like those soldiers gave him.  Ha!  He has nothing on me.  Well, I close this for now and write again tomorrow.

                                                                                    Your son,

                                                                                                Bob

P.S.  I wasn’t too mad about you asking about me writing to Ray too much, but you ought to know I wouldn’t.
