Monday Afternoon,

Feb. 29th

Dear John Milton;

            It sure was a swell surprise to have talked with you the other night, we are glad you called even tho you had written the letter about the “shake up.”  And if you are glad then we are glad you have what it seems the most interesting and pleasant sort of the work you are in.

            We always to the best work when what we are doing is agreeable to us.  Here’s hoping that fifteen days coming to you will be allowed in the shape of a “leave.”

            Yesterday (Sunday) we took Papa to the cottage.  He said he was going on Monday anyway whether we went or not, so after Sunday Sch. we went.  He has the urge to be down there right now, so if he has, it does give him something to do besides sitting around here feeling sorry for himself, so even tho he comes away before the Summer really gets in and goes back again, by his going, gives everybody a change for a while.

            When we had gotten to Mr. Reveer’s store, we saw the youngest Miller boy, and we asked after his brothers and Carlton is back in Ireland, and Alvin is in North Carolina.  He is in college then he will enter air training.

The Masons, one and all, asked after you and always do, Mildred is going to replace the screen wire on the porch where it has rusted into big holes.  She will be goof at this and save Ben the work himself, and Papa, we did not want him to do it for he really doesn’t see well enough to do that kind of work, besides, I hardly think he could do it anyway.

            How is your Lt. friend who had pneumonia?  I hope he has gotten well or nearly so by this time.  That’s a right bad sickness to have.

            To-night is the big night.  We are going to give the “Desert Song” the once over, and looking forward to it since we enjoyed it so much before we are anxious to see how this line up compares to John Boles and the others that played with him.

            We have several opinions about it from others, but we are going on your say so and see for ourselves.

            I have at last gotten my bar pin pack. You know what I refer to?  Well, they wouldn’t dip it as I had asked, since it wasn’t essential.  I am sorry about this, but otherwise it looks just as I had requested and had outlined to be done.  Perhaps later on I can have it dipped.

I guess this is all for now since it isn’t very long before Ben comes in to down to Langford’s for supper, I’ll get dressed and be out of his way; so, so long John Milton,

                                                            Love and good luck from us,

                                                                                    Mother.

Mon 8:00 A.M. – We saw the “Desert Song” and liked it very much.  This version is quite different from the original.

I have collected 18 bucks form the V.E.P.  for damage to my car.

Will write more another time,

                                    Dad
