My darling Fran:

I’m still setting here in the office waiting to go home for supper. Two of the men went out on a cease and I can’t leave until they return as one of them as the key to the safe. I’m [edited for content] near starved but there’s nothing else to do but wait. Jim is keeping me company. Today as yesterday I haven’t done a [edited for content] thing but read reports and directives. We are having two chickens for supper so the more I think of them the hungrier I get. It acts about the same as you the more I think of you the more I miss you and the more I love you. I’m just putting in time, waiting for the day they tell me the boat is waiting. I’ll certainly be a happy day for me and you to I guess. I’ve really got something to look forward to seeing my darling again after about one year. It sure will be a great day on that occasion.

My darling:

The reason for the lapse of time is because the two men returned so I packed up to go eat supper. Just before we were ready to eat we got a phone call from R.T.O. (Rail Trans. Office) that we should come right down and pick up some mail. The old mail man really come across at last. I received your package with the contents unharmed and that really was a welcomed gift. Along with that I received two “Esquires” and a letter from Verna, a letter from Bill H., and last but not least a letter from my darling. Your letter was dated April 10th so I have a good many more on the way. Now to get back for the reason of not finishing this letter. As you know you sent quite a number of home town papers in the package, well I just had to catch up on the news at home so I sat up until 12:30 reading the paper and that’s why I didn’t finish your letter. Everything in the package was very much appreciated. If you’re sending any more packages in the future I won’t need any more toothpaste, writing paper & envelopes, or candy and gum so don’t spend any of your money on that. I’ll be able to use what you sent me but it should last for quite some time. The fellows were glad I received those two Esquire magazines, now they will have something to read. Verna sent me two pictures of the baby one showing the new sidewalk. That baby certainly is getting cuter every day. I received a nice letter from Bill H., one of my former buddies at Holabird, and he apologized for not answering sooner but he was in Florida for a couple of weeks and it slipped his mind. In regards to your letter you spoke about my signing up for 3 years, well I’ve discontinued that trend of thought because I found out you can’t do it unless you’ve had sufficient time overseas. Honey I want you to take care of those nerves before they get the best of you. Well dear you tell Joe S. I’m looking forward to getting home and having that party back at the cabin but first of all my honey and I are going to have a party all by our lonesome. Remember honey I love you and always will so please be good for me. Give my regards to your folks, Geo. & Blanch, and all our friends. Send me lots of new pictures and some air mail stamps.

                                                                                                With all my love,

                                                                                                            Your honey.

                                                                                                                       I LOVE YOU DEAR.
