My darling Fran:

Well dear after many many weeks I’m finally settled. I can unpack my barracks bag and live like one should live. When I wrote to you Thurs. night I was in Kyoto and I told you I was going to Takamatsu that night. We went there but we didn’t go until Friday morning as there was two officers going with us and they wanted to go in the daytime so we could enjoy the trip so Duff and I stayed at the Kyoto Rest Center all night. While we were there we took in a movie, I had seen it before but since Duff hadn’t I stayed to see it again, it was “Doll Face”. We hit the sack early as we had to get up at 5:15 to catch our train at 6 o’clock. It was rather a nice trip down to Takamatsu arriving there around 1 o’clock. We were immediately introduced to our CO. Capt. Smith and assigned to sub detachments. We met four more CIC men on the train going to Takamatsu so that made 8 of us (3 officers and 5 enlisted men). A 2nd Lt. Trabulsi, Bill M., and myself were assigned to Tokoshima. We arrived here at 7:30 in the evening and the officer in charge, Bill P., was preparing to leave for the states for discharge. He is certainly a fine fellow and was very much liked. The officer he left in charge is also a swell fellow. There isn’t any formality or chicken, everyone is called by there first name and the rank is forgotten. This town I’m now in was pretty well hit by the Air Force but not as badly as Tokyo. We have our office in the court house and we are about the only American troops around, the other outfits are British. At present we are living in a Japanese Hotel which isn’t too bad but I haven’t gotten used to sleeping on the floor and sitting on the floor to eat. The Japanese are building us a new home (15 rooms) but it won’t be finished until May sometime. The people here treat us very nice but maybe they figure they have to. There are at present seven men but tomorrow one fellow leaves for Tokyo to attend school leaving two officers and four enlisted men all very nice fellows. There is positively nothing to do outside of a movie about twice a week so dear I’m certainly going to have lots of time to think about you. Honey just the short time I’ve been here already that’s all I’ve done is set and wonder what my darling was doing and how she was. Dear I know you miss me but it doesn’t hurt you like it does me because you have all our friends and plenty to do to occupy your mind. Boy if I was ever blue dear it’s right now, I certainly hope for my own good I get over it or it will drive me crazy. Honey I love you more every minute, you mean every thing in the world to me and you’re all I ever want. It may be hard for you dear but I still think it’s harder for me. I have a change to accept a Warrant officers rating dear but I must enlist one year from the date that I receive it which means I probably wouldn’t get it for at least 2 or maybe 3 months then from that time I must enlist for one year and I can’t see being away from you that long.  I keeping my fingers crossed that I can be on my way home this coming January so you keep your fingers crossed with me dear. Any mail that you have addressed A. P.O. 500 is O.K. but if you mark my future mail as follows: 61st C.I.C. Det. Area “A” A.P.O. 24 c/o Post. Master, San F-- Calif. I will receive it about two days faster. I haven’t had any mail from you in four days but I guess that’s because I’ve been moving around but dear don’t ever stop writing because I live from day to day for your letters, its the only thing I have to bring you close to me. From the bottom of my heart dear I’d give everything I have or ever owned to be back with you for good. Well dear I Guess I’ve shot off my big mouth long enough but before I close let me assure you one thing, everything I said in this letter I mean because I love you and only you. I’m still being a good boy so you be good and keep yourself ALL for me. When I get back I’ll love you so [edited for content] much you’ll probably wish I had stayed in Japan. Give my regards to your mother & dad, Geo, & Blanch, and all our friends.

From your husband who is never going

                                                To stop loving you.

                                                            Your honey.
