My darling Fran:

I was a bad boy last night honey because I didn’t write you. We started to play poker after supper and I expected to write you when we finished playing but guess what time we finished, 3:30 A.M. and by that time I couldn’t keep my eyes open so I hit the hay. We got our beer ration yesterday so along with our card playing we did a little drinking. I received your letters of Apr. 1st & 2nd and in them you acknowledged receipt, finally, of my letters. Your should have that 17 page letter by now unless the fellow to whom I gave it just failed to mail them. I hope he mailed it to you because it is a complete account of my trip from Seattle to Japan. As yet I haven’t received any packages or newspapers but I keep looking every day. I haven’t thought of anything else you can send outside of cigarettes. If you mail me about 2 cartons of cigarettes every week along with any thing else you might think I’d like why that will be sufficient. I’m certainly not going to smoke all those cigarettes but there’s some clothes I’d like to buy and as I said before cigarettes are at a premium over here. There’s a very nice rain coat with a removable lining I want to buy. I think it costs in the neighborhood of 500 yen which is equivalent to about $35. Back home it would probably cost at least 55 or 60 dollars. This check you find enclosed is the first money I’ve received since leaving the states. Although I think it should be more I’m sending it on to you and you can sign it and deposit some. Previous checks should be as near as I can figure should amount to around $25. Until of course I get a promotion which should be soon. When I accumulate 2250 yen I’ll sock that away for my return because when you leave this country the most you can cash in is 2250 yen or $150. All above this I get I’ll buy all sort of souvenirs. Well school is just about over, just four more days, then I’ll again be on the move and this move should be final until my return home. My address will be the same so don’t worry about that. I don’t know definitely when I’m going to be assigned but it will undoubtedly be either Fourth Region (southern Japan) or Korea. Stanley is going to the 6th Region so that means all my buddies are spread all over the [edited for content] island. Honey according to your letters, you’re missing me a lot while I miss you more than any thing in the world. Your still worrying about me cheating, honey I promise I’m true and I’m going to stay just that way. In case you’ve forgotten I might add I love you more than anything in the world and I want ONLY YOU so you be a good girl and I’ll be home to you just as fast as I can get there. Give my regards to your mother and dad, Geo &Blanch, and all our friends.

With all my love,

Your honey.
