Tuesday evening

Sept. 18th

Dear Fran: -

Just came back from the movies so I’ll drop my honey a line before turning in for the night. Bill C., Joe D., and myself went to see “State Fair” it wasn’t too bad although I’ve never seen better pictures. Well today wasn’t too bad in the morning we had to double time (run) for one mile after this we spent the balance of the morning on close order drill and the manual of arms. In the afternoon we spent all our time on the disassembly and assembly of the Browning Automatic rifle. Every weapon we fire we must first know how it functions also how to take it apart and reassemble it. Like I said once before when I get out of the Army I’ll be a [edited for content] good gunsmith. I think we walk guard tomorrow night and on Saturday we are supposed to have a formal guard mount, the first this camp has had. We march to guard with a band and before we are assigned some high ranking officer inspects your rifle. You personally must be spotless, clean shave, haircut, shoes shined, clean uniform, and etc. That’s largely what this Garrison training is, is one inspection after the other along with plenty of drilling. I believe I told you before Bob’s wife is coming up this week end so probably I’ll have the invitation to spend my off hours in their company. He went in town tonight to reserve the hotel room that’s why he wasn’t to the movies with us. Today I didn’t receive any mail not even from my honey, I’m surprised at you but I guess tomorrow I’ll have two instead of one. I wrote a letter home last night I must still answer George’s also Al’s. If you see Lloyd tell him I said he should be on hand when they get ready to ship me over so he can personally see that I get there safe. He should be able to get out now or doesn’t he want to if he don’t he’s nuts because I’ve only been away from my honey about two months and I’m ready to go home to her for good. Well honey I guess this well have to be another one of those short letters as I’ve run out of news so like I always tell you be good and wait because I love you and want you always. Remember me to your folks and my friends. Until tomorrow night good night honey and pray that I’ll be home soon.

With all my love,

Your honey.

P.S.

            Where’s the package?
