Nathaniel C. Chapman served for the United States Army in the 2116th Squadron in Napier Field Alabama. Born December 18, 1915, he finished two years of high school before enlisting in the army on April 18, 1942 at Camp Lee. While away, he writes mostly to his beloved wife who resides in Hopewell, VA. He said to her, “I would give anything if I was home so I could hold you in my arms and love you all I want to.” We currently have 13 letters in our historical collection, along with a few of his pre- and post-war medals. Nathaniel Chapman died on December 23, 1998 at the age of 83.
