Wednesday Night

Dearest Sweetheart,

Each hour brings your birthday closer; I am hoping that you will be able to have some celebration. Haven’t you any friends to be with? I feel badly to think you are alone. Do you see Bill and Nancy? Has Nancy recovered from her illness yet? Wonder if she will come over to the States before the war is over? No doubt you’ve read about the large group of Australian army wives who have been brought here? Some, so the paper account reads, plan to only stay here for the duration; others will make this their home. It is my personal opinion that they should stay at home and aid in their own manpower shortage - - surely there is one there the same as here. Maybe I’m prejudiced because I can’t I can’t get over there, huh? It’s good to know that some get what they want out of this war. You know, I think I’m reading too much into this war - - but I don’t feel it will ever end; perhaps, after all sides are either killed off or worn out, hostilities may cease, but only as an interlude to the next war, which I believe Russia will be the perpetrator. It’s quite a different story when one reads that until Germany turned on Russians, the two had a pact; therefore, when Russia was preparing for war, during her five year plans, she wasn’t planning on fighting Germany, was she? She planned to “spread Communism” to the west; for as Stalin believes, Communism is antithetical to Capitalism - - the former cannot succeed as long as the latter institution exists - - - - the tale goes on from there - -

Love,

Berna Lou
