#84

Dear Son,

We received your letter yesterday.  Am sorry to hear that you are not feeling well.  What seems to be the matter?  Is it a cold or are you working too hard?  Emily and I went to Ebaine’s Thursday night.  Your pa was so tired so he did not feel like going.  He was working outside and it was so cold in between the two gangways.  He was chill to the bone.  So we came home around 11 o’clock.  And last night was our supper.  Well we were all going, but Mr. Roth, as he came home kind of late, did not feel like going. So we picked up Emma and Richard, and we got as far as a little this side of Kedgie, and then the car stopped running.  Some guy pushed us but it wouldn’t go, so it was after 7 o’clock and we stayed to walk up to the hall at 3636 Armitage and your pa stayed in the car.  So Emily called her Dad and he came over to see what was wrong.  He said it was the gas line so when we got up to the hall they did not have any more hot supper left, so we had to eat cold slaw and a lot of salads. I felt terrible about Emma and Richard but I did mind us because Emily said, “Don’t worry we will make a supper out of this,” but I guess Richard was kind of sore. Well after your pa got the car home, he came up there and they gave him some bread and cheese and some bean salad and I guess the beans are still sticking in his stomach.  Here we thought that we were all going to have such a good time and then it had to turn out this way.  Mr. Roth came over today and fixed the car and looked it all over but he was saying something about getting some parts tomorrow and we’ll put them in next week.  He would not take any money so I told your pa that we would treat him some Sunday and take them out for dinner.  So you better thank him because he said he would do any thing for you so to keep the car in good running condition so when you get back it will be the same as you left it.  Well I better close now.  Hoping you are feeling better as we are all fine and your pa wants to write a few lines.  So good luck and lots love and kisses.
